Buttweld Tees

A butt-welded tee is a type of pipe fitting used to combine or divide the flow in a piping system. It is shaped like the letter “T” and has three openings—one inlet and two outlets, or vice versa. This fitting allows fluids or gases to be redirected through the system and is essential in branching pipelines. The “butt-welded” design means it is welded directly to the pipes, forming a strong, leak-proof connection, making it suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.

Butt-welded tees are typically manufactured according to standards like ASME B16.9, and are made from materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy steel based on the system requirements.
Types of Butt-Welded Tees:
1. Equal Tee (Straight Tee) :
In this type, all three branches (main pipe and branch outlet) are of the same diameter. It is used when the flow needs to be evenly split or combined.
2. Reducing Tee:
In this type, the branch outlet is smaller than the main pipe. It is used to connect a smaller diameter branch line to a larger main pipeline, allowing smooth flow transition.
These tees are widely used in industries like oil & gas, chemical processing, power plants, and water treatment systems for their durability and performance in critical conditions.
